Swanky Modes

Swanky Modes was started in 1972 by St Martin's graduates Willie Walters, Esme Young and Melanie Langer. Throughout the Seventies and Eighties, their radical designs were always way ahead of their time and developed through the glam rock era to the new wave: their fetish-inspired cut-away dresses came to define the early Eighties - despite being first introduced in 1977. This is a stunning featherlight tissue lurex skirt, heavily pleated into a wide, ribbed jersey waistband. I have shown at its full width, but it can be rolled over to make it a bit narrower. The colour is a delicious Cadbury's purple, and the fabric really is as light as a feather - giving it an almost ethereal, floaty quality.
