Swanky Modes

Swanky Modes started out amongst the boutique explosion of the Seventies (in 1972), being stocked in places like Che Guevara, but eventually opened their own boutique in 1975 (please do check out Paul Gorman's blog about them here). The Eighties were possibly the most successful decade for Swanky Modes. Their signature look was clingy and revealing, with the now legendary cut-out lycra dress worn by Linda Kozlowski in Crocodile Dundee. Their work has also recently been featured in the V&A's Club to Catwalk retrospective, finally ensuring their rightful place as important clubwear designers of the Eighties. This dress is an amazing stretch lycra piece, with off-the-shoulder styling and a perfect knee length. The fabric is a shimmering gold and grey, wonderfully subtle and decadent - and in wonderful condition (no bobbling or any of the usual problems with stretch fabrics of this period). Bag yourself a rare slice of fashion history, as these Eighties clubwear pieces will only get rarer and more valuable...
