Dorothy O'Hara
late 1940s

Contemporary to the likes of Ceil Chapman, Dorothy O'Hara was equally popular with Hollywood starlets and was also known as a designer for several movies in the Forties. Her trademark was figure flattering feats of fabric engineering, often more fluid and feminine than Ceil's bombshell silhouettes.

This dress is absolutely breathtaking. Crafted in a delicious crepe-y satin fabric, in the most unusual (and hard to photograph) dark petrol blue shade....which also sometimes looks a smidge green in certain lights. The draping on the skirt into the dipping waist seam is absolutely incredible, and beautifully mirrors the draping in the bodice and on the shoulders. The dominance of the shoulderpads and the softer waistline is indicative of the late Forties, and thus is a lovely early O'Hara piece. Effortlessly elegant and completely old-school Hollywood glamour!
